Make decisions
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” - Mary Oliver
Greetings and salutations, friends and visitors. Thank you for your patience with my silence the last six weeks. In that time, I vacationed in Colorado with family and friends, undertook some significant projects at my day job, and found myself with a second opportunity to purchase the property I first made an (unsuccessful) offer on in late June.
After a whirlwind negotiation and short close, I will soon own a charming condo in a dream neighborhood. Owning a condo in a historic building is not on most people’s roadmaps; but for me, the moment I saw this space, a dream I once had resurfaced. I may have gotten the details wrong - finding the light-soaked and hardwood-floored space in my hometown of Saint Louis as a single woman at the age of 40 - but the unit I’ll soon be calling home is a project I’m thrilled to have.
A friend and kindred spirit once said “Life is about deciding what you don’t want.” Sometimes we need to practice flexibility and smile when we pivot but mostly - remember that this is your “one wild and precious life.”
Make the decisions that bring you joy, satisfaction, and healing even if they don’t look like everyone (or anyone) else’s decisions.
Make the changes that serve your future self best (and hopefully don’t annoy your present self too much).
And keep your eyes open - pay attention - so that you can have the information you need to make those decisions when presented with the opportunities.
You can expect me back here on time next Wednesday. Until then, be well, beautiful people.
