The end
When I glanced at the calendar and realized I would be publishing this item on the last day of May, it felt fitting to follow a tangent and talk about my friend John’s picture book The End.
If you’ve found the last few posts too far on the “challenging” side, this post falls into “comforting” you.
John has a passion for precisely capturing big topics in accessible content; when you read The End you see this on full display.
It’s a picture book that follows a young girl as she experiences beginnings, endings, and middles of various things in her colorful world expertly illustrated by Josh Cleland.
“THE END might be a big deal.
Or you might not even notice it.
But THE END of one thing
is the beginning of something else.
And the beginning of one thing is
THE END of another.
And that’s okay.”
I recommend this book for adults and children alike. Sometimes as adults we are extremely harsh with ourselves - even unnecessarily so. Reading The End is like a hug from a friend, the one that both comforts and encourages you.
Yes, sometimes life is hard and not all new beginnings are exciting. And that’s okay.
